The Supreme Court
The judicial structure in the UK is often confusing. Both AQA and Edexcel specifications require you to know about the Supreme Court - the highest appellate court in the UK, which only reviews cases that it considers to have importance on a national scale.
By using these handouts, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge of what the Supreme Court does, and how it interactives with the executive branch, as well as the lower courts.
Examples are key to understanding the significance of the courts - don’t forget these will also be useful case studies for the ‘Rights’ section in Unit 1.
The video above is great for an initial understanding of how the Supreme Court came into being and the types of things that they do - keep in mind that it’s a bit outdated now, and that Lady Hale is no longer the President. Disclaimer - video is freely available on youtube and is not my own.
